The jet set touched down in Ottawa Sunday afternoon for the Ottawa Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012 campaign and Editorial shot by photog genius, Mario Miotti, and hosted by the brilliant Bruno Racine, co-owner of the The Loft and Le Spa in downtown Ottawa and Artistic Director of Ottawa Fashion Week. The jetsetters? Only the top five Canadian models de jour: Project Runway Canada veterans, Tori Leach, Alissa Pritchard and Ashley Fortin; Miss Universe Canada Contestant, Betsy Leimbigler; fresh face Sabrina Valetta; Rose from Angie’s Models and lone male model Matt Carson (who obviously had the hardest job!). The concept of the shoot was Gucci meets Michael Kors Ad - basically the lavish and extravagant lives of the young and the gorgeous.
This campaign and editorial was crafted by the delightful Bruno who was inspired by luxury and the fresh summer styles of Europe. The backdrop of the scene was his extremely sophisticated and newly renovated backyard; complete with in-ground pool, waterfall fireplace, jacuzzie and several chaises for everyone to lounge. I must admit, I was quite tempted to take a catnap in the shade, pool-side but alas there was work to be done and champers to be drank.
A team of experts from around the city rallied together to make Bruno’s concept turn into a reality. All the main players were present to lend their professionaly trained and creative eye. Lead stylist Alison Hughes, brought the vision to life through the use of clothing from her store, AMHStyle, as well as Vanilla Boutique, McCaffery Haute Couture and American Apparel. Make-up artist extraordinaire and lead makeup artist for CTV Ottawa, Leslie-Anne Barrett, worked her magic giving the models bold-coloured lips and smoky eyes. Bruno, of course, and his team from The Loft and Le Spa gave each model distinct hairstyles for this trending this season: rich colour, blunt bangs and long, wavy curls. And Toronto-based Mario Miotti worked his creative photography genius for results that reach far beyond the fabulous. The whole collaboration of brilliance was covered by the vibrant Joanna Hughes (Alison’s sister!), coming all the way from New York City, for her new TV show Beauty on a Budget NYC. Otto’s BMW in Ottawa lent two sexy BMW convertibles for the shoot, emphasizing the jet-setter lifestyle.
It was a long day of shooting (12 noon to 12 midnight), with night shoots by the pool that will undoubtedly look amazing. I myself, and the rest of Ottawa Fashion Week Team, are giddy with anticipation and excitement to see the final result. Stay tuned!
