NYE style in one word Classy

Go-to party accessories Depends on the venue.  If it is a cocktail party then the proverbial little black dress with some blingy accessories will do the trick. For something fancier, I am a huge fan of vintage long dresses especially ones with some kind of funky pattern. Kimono-style dresses are always a good bet for fancier parties as well.

Where will you be celebrating? I am having an intimate cocktail party with close friends at our house. Dress code: “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” interpretation up to wearer.

Cocktail of choice Gin and Tonic (simple and refreshing)

New Year’s resolution I try not to make NYE resolutions because I find I can never keep them and then feel bad. Instead I make monthly goals and try to achieve them. January is finish a rough draft of my first chapter of my PhD dissertation-fingers crossed that I can accomplish that one!

NYE style in one word You can’t go wrong with a LBD and sexy heels!

Go-to party accessories I love to sparkle over the holidays and especially on New Year’s Eve! I have a pair of diamond hoop earrings I always wear and a gorgeous sparkly bracelet from Banana Republic that adds some bling to my party outfits!

Where will you be celebrating Believe it or not – still undecided, because we have a few invitations and now the hard part is deciding where to go! Regardless of where we end up – out for dinner, at a dance, or at a house party – or even ringing in the new year with our children – I’ll be wearing sparkly!

Cocktail of choice Mmm…Vueve…champagne is my favourite!

New Year’s resolution To hit the gym on a regular basis! To find more time to do all the things I love to do! And to not sweat the small stuff!

NYE style in one word Zigazig-ha. After all these years I still have no idea what it means yet I still really really really want one of those things.

Go-to party accessories Whatever makes you feel like you can dance all night.

Where will you be celebrating? Somewhere in Vancouver, BC. As long as you got a good crowd it doesn’t matter what you end up doing, in my opinion.

Cocktail of choice I’m prompted to say Champagne since my blog is called Pop Champagne…but after a few it all tastes great, even the cheapest beer.

New Year’s resolution Last year I had no resolution and it turned out to be an amazing year of surprises. So this year, I’m still just going to wing it, and be thankful of what comes my way.

NYE style in one word Sparkly

Go-to party accessories I’m not a huge fan of accessories – I believe that less is definitely more, but on occasions like NYE accessories are definitely needed.  I love sparkly rings and earrings – the bigger the better. I also love love love scarves and think that every outfit looks better with one – even on New Year’s Eve.  False eyelashes are also a girl’s best friend to help create a dynamic special occasion look along with a fabulous pair of shoes. If you have false eyelashes and great shoes it doesn’t matter what the rest of the outfit looks like. On NYE no matter where you celebrate I think that every outfit looks better with a bit of sparkle.   It can be your makeup, your nails, your shoes or your entire outfit, but something should definitely sparkle.

Where will you be celebrating This New Year’s I’ll be at my friend’s house ringing in the New Year with all of my closest friends.

Cocktail of choice Vodka, X-Rated fusion liqueur, cranberry juice and a splash of grapefruit juice over ice.  Delicious and pretty.

New Year’s resolution As much as I’d like to say I don’t make resolutions, of course I do.  There’s the typical lose weight, eat healthier and get more sleep resolutions, but I also want to learn to make more out of my time.  I want to write more, grow my little blog into something bigger, spend more quality time with my kids, get outside more, and travel more.

NYE style in one word GLAMOUR. This is not the time to be a wall paper, to blend in. This is the ultimate occasion to wear your most glamorous outfits, be covered in shiny, sparkly things – and be your ultra FABULOUS self!

Go-to party accessories As New Year parties tend to be a marathon, not a sprint – you need to make sure that you have the appropriate but absolutely ‘bling’ footwear! My go to shoes for any occasion has been my golden shoes! It makes me feel magical instantly! Like Dorothy said “Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.”

Where will you be celebrating? We’ve got a number of invitations and we’ve narrowed it down to three: The New Year’s Eve Gala sponsored by the PHILIPPINE HERITAGE FOUNDATION OF CANADA and the Embassy of the Philippines, the annual Starfish New Year’s Eve Party at the Marriott Hotel and we’ll cap the night off with the Exclusive Twenty York Street’s Annual Celebratory Champagne toast!

Cocktail of choice There is no perfect way to celebrate 2011 and welcome the New Year with the celebratory champagne! Cliché it might be but there’s a reason why it’s the drink of victory!

New Year’s resolution Aside from more love and writing in the New Year, I really want to carve out the time to practice more yoga and to go back to dance – my other first loves! I’ll tell you a little secret, an exclusive 20YS’ insider scoop and OFW is the first to hear this – Twenty York Street is getting published and it looks like ML is just going to be busier than ever! But 2012 – I will endeavour for more balance between love, life and success!

…the eye of the beholder.

Hailee Steinfeld, Lindsey Wixson, Elle Fanning

A frequent purveyor of fashion magazines, it never donned on me before. The focus for me was, of course, the clothes. But the more and more fashion editorials you thumb through, the better you are at identifying the models and clothes featured. So while looking over the pages of British Vogue, I remembered the model used in one of its editorials, Lindsay Wixson. “I remember her!” I said to myself, “she’s on the cover of style.com/print and wasn’t she the face of Prada at one point?”. Naturally, I looked up her credentials and was in sheer shock and awe when I learned of her age. 16. Yes, that’s right 16 years of age. The Prada print ads I was referring to, I saw last year. I remember my boyfriend had caught a glimpse and asked me if the model was a little girl. She might as well have been.

The aforementioned anecdote bears the question; why are children modelling clothes made for today’s woman? What do I mean by “today’s woman”? In the interest of this post, she is affluent, over 30 years of age, has a thriving career and gracefully balances her work and family life. She is not 16 years of age. Or 13 for that matter (yes I’m talking about Elle Fanning). Granted, Marc by Marc Jacobs is targeted to a younger generation, but not 13 years young! Doesn’t it just get your knickers in a knot? The world was up on arms, earlier this year, when French Vogue released a full-length editorial featuring a make-up donning, provocatively posed 10-year-old girl. The reasons behind the editorial? To make a statement against the fashion world’s beauty idealism? Perhaps.

It’s been famously written that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. Indeed it is. Regrettably, many look to society to shape their ideals of what beauty is (read: should be) – expectations become unfulfilled, travesty ensues, inno is lost. I would hope that in 2011, today’s woman has a healthy take on what beauty is or should be. I hope the same for their younger counterparts: today’s woman of the future.

Tell us, what do you think? Sound off below.
