Amazing Blog Amoi! :)
I was thinking the same thing and I feel the same way!
Did you hear about this website? http://www.nytix.com/NewYorkCity/articles/handbags.html

It's a GUIDE to buying fake's on Canal Street in NYC. Personally, I think this is RIDICULOUS!

Also, apparently there's a bill being passed in NYC where women would get charged for buying counterfeits! Check it out! http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/manhattan/bill_would_bag_phony_purse_buyers_6hf0Hn6XVPYQ2pQaX9NmbI

Personally, I believe in working towards your wants (and needs in some designers cases lol). I'd rather be like Carrie on Sex and the City and wait until I can afford the real deal. Doesn't it feel better that way?

Counterfeits are a tough issue. Personally, I don't agree with purchasing fake iconic pieces (Louis Vuitton bags, Chanel purses, etc) or other items faking the logo of a brand. Personally I think it's very fake for a person to carry around such an item pretending that it's the real deal. Yes, it is a status symbol, so wouldn't one feel like a complete fraud carrying around a fake item when they cannot afford the real one? It's faking status so in a way it's lying. I have no intention of owning a Chanel purse until I can comfortably afford one. I feel that one can only really appreciate how special an item is when they have put in the hard work to afford the real thing, not a cheap fake.

However, when it comes to items such as clothing, I feel like the lines blur a bit. In the case of Kate's wedding dress it was expected for everyone to start popping out fakes the second it hit the TV. When buying a piece inspired by a high end item, I feel it's fine as long as one does not go about it under the pretense of it being the real deal. Furthermore, unlike with easily spotted status items, it takes a trained eye to spot a designer piece of clothing (whether it's real or fake) so under those circumstances, I feel people purchase these pieces because they genuinely like the style of the item rather than for the meaning behind it.

Your write-up is absolutely beautiful! Couture is definitely relevant in the fashion world today, and will probably always be. Couture always holds a sense of allure and glamour-more so than other aspects of fashion. I love your description of Givenchy's Fall 2011 collection!
I love your blog! Thank you for your comment on mine.

xoxo
