Whitney Delion of Sound of Lions

Please don’t stop the music. Check out these performers for a free show tonight at the Westin Ottawa between 5pm-10pm. Erin Saoirse Adair kicks off the night with a repeat performance, starting at 5pm.

CAMP FORTUNE

Come to the L’Oreal Professionnel stage tonight between 7 and 8 to groove to ultra-smooth beats produced by Camp Fortune.  Remixing various Montreal acts such as Socalled and The Pop Winds, Camp Fortune creates electrifying beats that are sure to delight your ears.

SOUND OF LIONS

With their unique sound combining hip-hop, rock, and soul music, Sound of Lions has been steadily gaining a reputation as ones to watch.  Sound of Lions is a five-piece band led by the sultry voice of their front-woman, Whitney Delion.   Their music is an interesting mix of restrained sounds and emotional lyrics.  Tonight you’ll be serenaded with an acoustic set with Delion and Will Assaad, starting at 9pm.

What to Expect

Frank Sukhoo is perhaps one of the most well-known Ottawa couturier’s for many of the leaders in Ottawa’s arts, culture political scenes, including former Governor General Michaëlle Jean and National Arts Centre Orchestra’s principal cellist Amanda Forsyth. Having taught at the local Richard Robinson Academy of Fashion Design for 13 years, it makes sense that Sukhoo went on to work at Silkwear as head designer, partnered with designer James Jefferson for years, and then went on to create his own boutique, Sukhoo Sukhoo Couture in 2009.

Exceptionally unique custom pieces, including coats and evening wear will characterize Suhkoo’s show for Ottawa Fashion week. Designs will have a classic feel with a certain attention to detail, natural materials and silks, high-end fabrics and lots of lace.

What to Expect

Andy Nguyen, designer for Y!D.N.A. Collection, and a Lasalle College graduate, made is his mark in the fashion world when he won first place in the Telio 2010 fashion competition which recognizes up-and-coming designers. Nguyen designs to press pause and fragment each moment of his life, and he builds clothes that are inspired by those memories he holds on to. Designing is his how he plans to live forever.

Nguyen’s first official runway collection, “Dark Light,” espouses his desire to be here for the long run, and to be a dark horse in that run. Expect thin wood chip and metals details, wool transformation, unique hints of rubber, leather and latex tied to various clothes. Combining elements of Jewish and Chinese culture, the collection also aims to show the diverse cultures present in Canada and the memories Nguyen’s has from all the people that have been a part of his life.

The moves Pestich made early on in her designing career enabled her to hone and improve both the skills and techniques she acquired in school and through her work experience to acquire a real organic understanding of how the fashion industry works. Relaunched in 2006 as strictly a dress label, Illyria Design has been selling to boutiques all over eastern Canada ever since.

Ella Peru is a lifestyle boutique brand founded in the spring of 2010. Su-Hui Chu, Ella Peru founder and Ottawa native, draws inspiration for her print heavy and nouveau-classique style from from the people and places that surround her.

The Fall/Winter 2012 collection from Ella Peru, dubbed “Euclid and Ulster,” pays homage to the designer’s new home and neighbourhood—set among the Victorian homes of The Annex in Toronto, Canada. While staying true to her vision of classic femininity, she has added a layer of vintage charm. The concept is a mix of near-contradictions—quirky yet elegant, girlish yet refined, sexy yet stately—with a seamless and beautiful result.
